Questions

What makes a chord major?

A major chord has three notes: the root, the major third (4 frets above the root) and the fifth (7 frets above). It sounds bright and settled.

How do I read a chord diagram?

The vertical lines are the strings, with the thickest (low E) on the left. The horizontal lines are frets. A dot shows where to press, and the number inside is the finger to use: 1 index, 2 middle, 3 ring, 4 little. A circle above the nut means play the string open; an X means don't play it.
