Free chord identifier
Choose the fret for each string you are holding, and see what chord it is, with its notes and a diagram.
How to use it
- Choose the fret for each string, from the thickest (low E) on the left to the thinnest (high e) on the right.
- Use x for a string you mute, and – for a string you do not play.
- Press an example shape to see how it is named, then change one fret to hear the difference.
How the name is worked out
The lowest sounding string sets the bass note. If the bass is not the chord’s root, you get a slash chord such as C/G. When one shape could be two chords, the closest match is shown first and the others are listed under it.
