Questions

Which pentatonic box should I learn first?

Position 1, the box with the root on the 6th string. In A minor it starts at fret 5. Most famous rock and blues licks live in this box.

What is a scale position?

A position (or box) is a group of scale notes you can reach without moving your hand much, usually across four or five frets. Five positions of the pentatonic scale join up to cover the whole neck.
