Fretwork vs Yousician: which is better for learning guitar?

Short answer

Yousician’s big advantage is that it listens to you play and scores you as you go. Fretwork doesn’t do that yet. Fretwork is free for its first two stages with no trial clock, and its Player plan is $12.99 a month against $14.99 for Yousician Premium (on annual billing both are $89.99 a year).

Which should you choose?

Choose Yousician if…

You want the app to listen to you play and score every note in real time, or you want to learn piano, bass, ukulele or singing too.

Choose Fretwork if…

You want to start for free with no trial clock, pay less for guitar on its own, and learn from lessons that explain why, not only play-along scoring.

Can you use both?

Yes, and plenty of learners do. Fretwork’s first two stages are free with no card, so you can try it alongside Yousician and keep whichever you actually practise with. Whatever you pick, the thing that matters most is short, daily practice: see how much to practise and whether to learn with an app or a teacher.
