How Fretwork checks its lessons and guides
Every chord shape, scale and number on Fretwork is checked by code against music theory before it is published. Prices and facts about other companies come from their own pages, with the date we checked them. Pages show when they were last updated, and we correct mistakes readers report.

Who writes Fretwork
Fretwork is made and run by True Music School, a small team in Mumbai, India. Pages are credited to “the Fretwork team” rather than a single author, because each one is written, checked and updated by more than one person and process.
How we use software and AI
We use software, including AI writing tools, to draft and to check pages. Facts that can be checked by code are always checked by code, as listed below, before a page is published.
What we check, and how
| What | How it is checked |
|---|---|
| Chord shapes | Code works out the note each string sounds in standard tuning and compares it with the chord’s notes. The root must be in the bass (or the named bass for a slash chord). All 373 shapes in the open dataset pass. |
| Scales, keys, capo and transposing tables | Computed from intervals, not typed by hand. |
| Chord and song difficulty scores | A published formula with its weights, a worked example and a sensitivity test on the chord difficulty index page. |
| Practice-time estimates | Calculated from the planned practice hours of each stage of the curriculum, divided by minutes a day. |
| Prices and products of other companies | Taken from the company’s own website, with the month we checked it shown next to the figure. |
| Songs | Traditional and public-domain songs only. We publish chords and how to play them, not copyrighted lyrics or recordings. |
| Pain and injury | Pages about sore fingers, wrists or hands say to stop for sharp pain, numbness or tingling and to see a doctor if it persists. They are not medical advice. |
Dates and updates
Guides show an “Updated” date. We change it when the content changes, not to make a page look new.

Our interest
Fretwork sells guitar lessons. Pages that compare learning options say so, and our free tools, guides and data work without an account.
Open data
Our chord shapes, scales and song list are published as the Fretwork Guitar Dataset under CC BY 4.0, so anyone can check them.
