Questions

How fast should I increase the metronome?

Go up 5 to 10 BPM only after you can play the passage three times in a row cleanly. If it falls apart, drop back 10 BPM.

What tempo should I start at?

Slow enough that it feels almost too easy, often 60 BPM. Accuracy at a slow tempo is what makes the fast tempo possible.
