Questions
Why are they called power chords?
With distortion, full chords get muddy. A power chord has only the root and fifth (no third), so it stays clear and punchy when the amp is turned up.
Are power chords major or minor?
Neither. With no third, a power chord fits over both major and minor songs, which is why it is written as a 5 (E5, A5).
